GSAR Bio: Karen Ernst

The second biography in our "Get to know GSAR" series is Karen Ernst, who serves as president of the board of directors.
____________________________

What's your role with GSAR?
Currently I am the President of the Board of Directors. I am also a foster home and I help with intakes, adoptions, and special events.

How long have you worked with GSAR?
We have bee fostering for about 3 1/2 + years now.

How did you get started with GSAR?
We responded to an ad Kay put in our church bulletin looking for foster homes for small critters. It began with a set of guinea pigs, but quickly grew from there!

Tell us about the humans who live in your home.
Our humans include hubby Tom, and kids Katie (8), Riley (6), and Morgan (4).

Tell us about the "permanent" pets in your home.
Currently our resident crew consists of:
  • Two Australian Cattle Dogs, Maddie (9) and Cobber (7)
  • Two cats, Schay (17) and Amadeus (15)
  • Two bunnies, Jackie and Butters (both around 5)
  • Two parakeets, Summer and Winter
  • One rooster
  • Six hens
  • 12 peeps

(Editor's note: And a partridge in a pear tree! Sorry . . . couldn't resist.)

What's the funniest thing your pet does?
Well, I don't know how funny it is, but EVERY night, Cobber does what I call his "screwball run." He barks at the dusk sky and runs in laps thru the yard. He does this for about 10 minutes, then he is OK to come in!

What's your favorite book/TV/movie pet and why?
Currenly, I get a giggle out of the Wonderpets on Nickleodeon. It's kind of amusing watching the talking guinea pig!
